hris Hartswick’s fascination with the transformative power of light began during his undergraduate studies in architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Reflecting on his early passion, Chris recalls, “I began to appreciate the vast ways that light can interact with architecture and transform how one sees and experiences spaces. Soon after, lighting went from an interest to an obsession.” This profound interest led him to pursue a master’s degree from the prestigious Lighting Research Center (LRC) at RPI, where he deepened his expertise in lighting design and technology.
Chris’s professional journey began with roles in lighting design and product development, where he honed his skills and built a foundation for his future endeavors. His entrepreneurial spirit soon led him to co-found Ideoli Group, a company dedicated to merging the disciplines of product development and lighting design. As the Chief Product Officer, Chris plays a crucial role in shaping the company’s vision and ensuring it stays at the forefront of the lighting industry.
At Ideoli Group, Chris and his team pride themselves on being custom interiors specialists. They meticulously design, manufacture, and source the exact lighting and furnishings needed to bring their clients’ visions to life. Before founding Ideoli, Chris gained invaluable international experience. He built a robust manufacturing network and participated in a multi-company merger, which streamlined manufacturing and product design processes. He also played a key role in an early LED start-up that was eventually acquired and went public on the NYSE, highlighting his ability to navigate and thrive in dynamic and competitive environments.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Chris is an avid outdoorsman. He enjoys gardening, hiking, and tackling DIY projects around his home, channeling his creativity and passion for design into his personal life.
Chris holds a bachelor’s degree in Architecture from RPI and a master’s degree in Lighting from the Lighting Research Center at RPI.
